Project

ROV 3D Photogrammetry, Hydrographic & LiDAR Survey

Underwater Acoustics International (UAI) conducted a comprehensive hydrographic survey of the downstream area of the hydroelectric dam, employing advanced multibeam sonar and side-scan sonar technologies. Additionally, the UAI team performed a detailed inspection of the downstream dam toe using remotely operated vehicle (ROV) 3D photogrammetry imaging. The above-water component of the project encompassed high-resolution terrestrial laser scanning of the dam infrastructure and powerhouse. The primary objective of this initiative was to deliver an in-depth underwater 3D sonar analysis of the submerged dam areas, fulfilling the underwater assessment requirements mandated by the client's Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12D inspection. UAI takes pride in successfully executing a 3D photogrammetry survey of the dam toe, which effectively supported the client's proposal to FERC, demonstrating the potential to eliminate the necessity for a dive inspection.

Project

Hydrographic & LIDAR Survey

Underwater Acoustics International (UAI) executed an extensive and meticulously planned imaging survey of the hydroelectric dam facility, utilizing a sophisticated suite of technologies that included multibeam sonar, side-scan sonar, and high-resolution scanning sonar, integrated with state-of-the-art LiDAR systems. This comprehensive study encompassed both above- and below-water assessments, designed to produce highly detailed two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) sonar imagery of the submerged dam structures, as well as the upstream and downstream concrete-lined channel sections. The primary purpose of this initiative was to deliver a robust and precise analysis of the underwater environment, fulfilling critical evaluation needs while adhering to rigorous industry standards. By establishing a high-precision digital baseline of the facility, this survey provides a foundational dataset that facilitates ongoing monitoring and enables detailed comparative analysis against future underwater inspections. This capability ensures the accurate assessment of structural integrity and environmental changes over time, supporting long-term operational and safety objectives for the hydroelectric dam infrastructure.

ROV 2D / 3D Scanning Sonar, Hydrographic & LiDAR Survey

Underwater Acoustics International (UAI) conducted a comprehensive above- and below-water imaging study of the hydroelectric dam facility, employing an array of advanced technologies, including multibeam sonar, side-scan sonar, high-resolution 2D scanning sonar, and 3D multibeam scanning sonar, complemented by LiDAR systems. The principal aim of this endeavor was to provide a thorough 2D and 3D sonar analysis of the submerged areas of the dam, meeting the stringent underwater assessment criteria stipulated by the client's Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12D inspection requirements. Furthermore, the underwater investigation served to establish a digital baseline for the facility, enabling comparative analysis of temporal changes through subsequent underwater surveys.
